Mr.McClung
I think that Mr.McClung really helped me be more aware of how hard it is to be to be a new teacher but at the same time how exciting it is. It is very important for new teachers to remeber that every student is on a different level. I think it is also great for new teachers to undersatnd that no matter how hard they try the whole class is not going to get a perfect grade. I liked that he talked about the use of technology because by taking this class I have learned how useful technology is going to be in my teaching. There are always ways to incorporate some type of technology into a lesson.
I had the opportunity to observe and teach at Alba Middle School in a class of 7th graders and I must say I can relate to filling like everything has to be perfect. The first class I taught I was very nervous and I was sticking to the PowerPoint to make sure I would not leave any thing out. However, as the day went on I became much more comfortable with teaching and I added my own things to the lesson. The last two lessons I even had the students playing a very interactive review came to make sure they understood the lesson. All of Mr.McClung advise is very helpful and very true. As a future teacher I will cherish his advise and try my best to always remember it.

Blog Post 8
Watch Richard Miller: This Is How We Dream Parts 1 and 2
Mr. Miller's videos were really interesting to watch. He talks about the way things have changed concerning writing and publishing. He mentions that some of the incremental change are where we work and how we work. He points out that he use to spend most of his time in the library researching and writing papers. However, now most of all writing is done using the desktop on one's computer. On the computer we can use word processors to write and the internet to do research. He also points out that the internet is now how we work. People tend to not only publish print copies of bools and papers but also online versions for the public to see. He says that this is a good way for educators to share their ideas freely. However, he points out that the desktop will soon be replaced by the internet. People will soon write and publish things directly into the internet for them to be seen and read by many.
I believe Mr. Miller is true in his finding. The way people work and where they work has completely changed. I like Mr. Miller feel that the change has just began and is far from over. In a few more there will be new ways of working/writing that the world will embrace just as we have word processors.
The Chipper Series
Chipper was a really entertaining but educational video. It is very important to get your work done on time in school because it prepares you for the future. I am one of those students who wait until the last minute but I am also a student who turns my work in on time. I may be late once but after that I make it my mission to not be late again. I do have a busy life but school is very important because it shapes my future. I believe this video will lcontinue to be very beneficial to many students.

This video is very informative. There have been plenty of times when I get text or emails from classmates asking me about an assignment or looking for a better understanding on something. I have always watched videos on YouTube and tried to read very carefully so that I can fully understand the assignments. Jamie Lynn is correct in saying there would be plenty money to make on making this a real book.
Michael Staton, Why Smartboards Are A Dumb Initiative
I really enjoyed reading this post. I have always sort of wondered why there was a need for smartboards and how were they different from a white board and projector. Yes, I understand that they give the students a chance to be more interactive in the classroom, but how many things could the students really do? Smartboards seem to be a good idea for math and science classes because those are the classes with the most interaction. However, what place do smartboards have in other classrooms like history? This post gave me some much needed insight and information on smartboards in the classroom.
Bill Ferriter, Why I Hate Interactive Whiteboards
This post was much like the last in saying that smartboards are a waste of money and about PR. Smartboards are not changing our schools or the learning that is taking place. Most teachers do not even use their smartboards. My pre-calculus class in high school had a smartboard and it just sat in the classroom all semester. If schools have money to spend they should use it for really changing the classroom and not just creating the illusion of change to look good.

Additional Assignment #2
I believe that if children is motivated they can indeed teach themselves and learn more because they are doing it for themselves. Children can most definitely teach themselves if they want to learn something. How much a child would be willing to teach themselves all depends on their motivation however. Motivation is the most important factor in children teaching themselves. As long a child is motivated to learn something they will learn and teach themselves and if necessary. The internet and computers can play a big part in children teaching themselves because it makes information easily available tao them. They can check behind themselves using the internet and even teach themselves more than they might want to learn. However, if a child is not motivated to learn or teach themselves they will not put forth the work needed. These would be the children that when given a problem they would not try to solve it. Problems to a motivated child is just a opportunity to ask questions and learn something new.
I am very motivated to learn, learning new things excite me and motivates me to keep learning more. I believe a non motivated person can learn but they would not truly grasp the concept enough to want to keep it going. It will be just something else they know but will not ever use. I, a very motivated learner, teach myself something new every day. I am constantly figuring out new ways to study, new ways to communicate, and new ways to reach others. Blog post 7
Randy Pausch is a professor at Carnegie Mellon University. His lecture is filled with a lot of positive energy. Mr. Pausch talked about his dreams as a child and how important it is to fulfill those dreams and not to give up. He also gave the talked about how you should not let any one stand in your way. Mr.Pausch “last lecture”, really taught me to live my life to the fullest and not to let anything stand in my way.
Mr. Pusch identifies with many people when he talks about the "brick wall". Everyone has had an encounter with a "brick wall" at some points in their life. This wall is something that blocks someone away from something they want. He says that the walls are there for a reason to stop the people who do not want it bad enough. This analogy is really good and says that you have to really want to accomplish something in order for it to happen. There will always be a wall for the things you really want out of life. The wall separates the people who really want to accomplish something and those who do not want to work for what they want.
Most people do not think of their childhood dreams as things to be accomplished when they are older because they figure they have grown out of them. However, your dreams are the most important part of a person to me. A person's dreams make them who they are or help to get them where they wish to be.
Mr. Pusch is a really inspirational speaker. He inspired me to follow my dreams no matter how hard they may seem to be. If I work really hard and keep my eye on my goals then I will accomplish them. This also taught me to work extra hard through the tough times in my life because the pay off could be much greater than the work put in.

PLN first post
I have looked at and created two PLNs one using Netvibes and the other using Symbaloo. I have looked around on both sites to see which site best fits my personality and needs.
Symbaloo was a little hard for me to understand. I could not figure out how to add other widgets to my dashboard. Since this is what I understand the purpose of a PLN to be I did not find it very helpful. I found it to be generic and something I would not view often.
Netvibes on the other hand was very easy to navigate and figure out. Within minutes I was adding things to my page and added an education tab. Within my education tab I found it easy to add widgets that gave a feed to my blog and the class blog. I also started searching for widgets about education and teaching. I found some really helpful ones and added them to the tab with ease. I also found a widget for Delicious so now I can see my bookmarks in my PLN. One of my favorite widgets I have found so far has been a widget where you can add a website to your PLN even if it does not have a widget created. On my general tab in my PLN I have added my Facebook and Twitter accounts so that I can keep up with things in my social network as well. Unlike Symbaloo Netvibes does not take me to another page to view my timelines. After a while I looked at the time and an hour had past and I was still learning new things about my PLN on Netvibes.
Needless to say, I deleted my Symbaloo account and bookmarked my Netvibes account. I look forward to learning about more things I can add to my PLN in the future.

DAVID WARLICK
The first post I read of Mr. Warlick's was his thoughts on a woman at a conference in Dallas. Mr. Warlick was intrigued that this woman decided to watch a television series twice all because she blogged and communicated with others about it.He then asked the question
I think he is asking the right questions about this woman’s experience. If reading and communicating with others makes her want to go back and re-watch the show then the same methods could be used in a classroom. If students were to read other students comments on the subject they are studying they would probably be more interested in the subject. I believe this could be effectively used in the classroom as long as the teacher is willing to try.
Mr. Warlick's second post I commented on was about a art conference he attend and Ronda Sternhagen, a teacher, integrating art into different subjects. I think it is a good for all subjects to be integrated into the classroom especially art. Many schools after primary school do not focus on art and the students loose interest in art completely. If art was used to help teach subjects like math and history the students would also gain more interest in this subjects. Myself as a student learns better when I have something to relate a lesson to. If teachers uses art to help the students better understand a lesson I believe the students would leave class with more knowledge. If we had learners participate in networked conversations about a unit of study, and then made parts (or all) of that conversation available to the next year’s learners, would next year’s learners have a more effective experience with the same unit of study? Blog Post 6
The Networked Student by Wendy Drexler:
The networked classroom is a very good idea in some classrooms but I am not sure it could work with all education levels.This type of classroom could easily work in a college setting because it set up for the student to learn using other educational resources. However, I am not positive this can work in a middle school classroom environment because the students are being taught at a young age to depend on their teachers for all of the information on a lesson. Students are not taught to second guess teachers or even research on their own. Of course most students are given some type of research project but none that is in the depth of this networked classroom.
If a teacher could accomplish this in a classroom it would be very beneficial to their students. Their students would start learning the skills needed in college and possibly their careers. The students would also be taught how to learn independently. It would be the teachers job to guide them through the network but not to do it for them. This is why I feel their is still a need for a teacher in this kind of classroom because the students will always need someone to answer their question and guide them.
A 7th Grader's Personal Learning Environment (or PLN)
Seeing this students PLE really taught me about a Personal Learning Network. Before this video I really had no idea what a PLN was or was suppose to look like. I just knew that it was something I am setting up in this class. Now I have a much better understanding and I am even more interested in setting up my PLN. I am so glad that we had to watch this video because I can honestly say I have a much better understanding about this class and what I am suppose to be learning. This video also gave me great ideas on how this could be used in a history classroom.
Also, this video gave me a better understanding on how the networked classroom could be applied in any classroom as long as the teacher is willing.
The Machine is Changing Us
This video gave me new ways to view our society and our culture. I have never really cared why people used YouTube or thought about the impact they make in our society. I agree with his research that people feel free and confident when it comes to posting on YouTube because they do not know their audience. I also understand how this could also cause people to be more nervous and self aware because people all around will be watching them.
I found it very interesting how he pulled quotes from the past into his lecture and they not only fit perfectly but helped explain issues of today. I enjoyed how he started the lecture with comparing the different views of the books 1984. This was interesting to me because I have read the Huxley version and really enjoyed it. His whole lecture helped me to not only think more about the internet and its networking powers but to also get a better understanding about it as well.

Summary Post C4K comments 1 and 2
I really enjoyed learning about Jasminm as a person and as a student. While reading Jasmin's All About Me blog I found that she and I share many interest such as our music choice being R&B. We are also very shy and timid around people we do not know but can be very outspoken around friends.
Jasmin's Manifesto showed me that she wants to learn but she knows that she has to stay out of trouble to do so. One of the things she wants to accomplish is to not talk back to the teacher. I told her that that was a great start to accomplishing another point in her Manifesto about staying out of trouble. I also explained to her that the more time she spends in the classroom and out of the office will help her learn more and get better grades.

Blog Post 5
These third graders did a very good job on there podcast. Although it was not video I could see the newscast happening. I really liked how they had music relating to their subject playing in the background. It was really a good thing that the music did not overpower the podcast. I could clearly hear the students. Another good thing about their podcast was that there picture was the background while you listened to them speak on Rome.
The benefits of podcasting in the classroom
This video was really interesting and gave many different ideas on how podcasting could be used. I have always wanted to record my classes and be able to watch and listen to them later so I could really let the lesson sink in. With podcasting it is possible for teachers to for this for their classes. This way those students who may not have gotten something taught in class or was absent that day could see what happened in class. I believe if teachers really started to podcast their classroom grades would really improve.

This post really helped me better understand what a podcast was. May people use the term and I get kind of get what they are talking about but I did not know the actual meaning for the word. Now that I know what a podcast is and the many thing I can use it for I can utilize it for my blog and future classroom.

Blog Post 4
Don't teach your kids this stuff. Please?
Mr. McLeod's blog post was really good and very true. The parents who do not take the time to teach their children about the internet and technology are putting their children at a disadvantage. Technology is not going anywhere. It is better is a parent teaches their child about it rather than letting them figure it out on their own. This is how children get themselves into trouble using the internet.
Mr. McLeod is an assistant professor and a believer in technological innovations in public schools. He believes that technology is changing much faster than school. He also believes that our schools are not preparing our students for the future. Thanks to Mr. McLeod's blog it was easy to find out a little about him without very much searching.
The iSchool Initiative
This video is by far the best video I have seen. This high school student has all of the right ideas and I believe he just lacks the support for his ideas. The ISchool is very initiative. At first when viewing the video I was thinking how would the schools control internet use in class but it makes sense that because the students would be on the schools network it would be easy.
His plan is really good and with the right support to back him up this could really catch on in many schools and maybe nation wide. I would be willing to teach using this system. It seems to be very efficient and cost efficient. However, it will take a numerous amount of convincing to change our society and school systems of today. This video is a really good start.
The Lost Generation
It is this kind of thinking along with the The Lost Generation video that says that our generation is ready for change and we are willing to set new standards. The Lost Generation video shows that this generation can can change things if they have the initiative. We do not have to "go with The flow" of things. We can make positive changes in our life standards that will effect generations to come. With simply believe we can and that we will make change for the better we have a better shot at getting it accomplished. I think this video goes along with the iSchool video well because they both show that our generation is willing to set higher standards for society. We no longer want things to be how they are or were ten years ago. We are ready to change our schools and our society and it all starts with simply believing your idea can make a difference.

Additional Assignment #1
Using Google Squared is a good educational tool to use for doing research. It gives the researcher all the information they need in just a few clicks of a mouse. Another very good thing about using Google Squared is that it is a reliable source for students to use unlike websites such as Wikipedia. I did not know about Google Squared before this assignment but I am glad I know now because this is a good tool to use as a history teacher.
Wolframalpha is another site I had not heard of before this assignment. I do however like this website because it provides researches with the same reliable information as Google Squared but it includes maps and charts for better understanding.
These two websites did not so much as change my thoughts on the Did You Know video but helped me understand the video better. Before it was just many big numbers thrown at me now those numbers mean so much more because they make sense to me. I have learned to never jump to conclusions about the numbers/statistics people give to me. It is better that I research them for myself to get a full understanding about what they mean.
I loved the Food for Thought article myself because I have an Ipad and my three year old cousin picked it up one day and started playing with with. I think products like this can also be a really good teaching tool for reaching those who can not yet read or write in a very fun way.

I have learned to never jump to conclusions about the numbers/statistics people give to me. It is better that I research them for myself to get a full understanding about what they mean.
I loved the Food for Thought article myself because I have an Ipad and my three year old cousin picked it up one day and started playing with with. I think products like this can also be a really good teaching tool for reaching those who can not yet read or write in a very fun way.

Michael Wesch: A Vision of Students Today
I relate to this video in many ways. I am like most of the students in it. I attend college to be prepared for the career path I have chosen. However, most of my class do not teach me a thing. I still memorize answers for a test because I will not use the information after that one test. I do not feel like a student to many of my teachers but more like a piece of cardboard paying their salary. Two of my teachers this year has even tried to learn the students' names.
I like many of the students in this video have a computer in class but it is not for class work. Although most of the teachers know what students are doing they do not care as long as you pretend to be listening. I take a drama class where I just take notes every day. There is no active learning in schools. This makes it hard to want to go to class everyday because you are put to sleep by the teachers who are suppose to be teaching you things that will help you in the future. This video read my mind and illustrated it perfectly for others to see.
"It's Not About the Technology" by Kelly Hines
"It's not about technology" was a really good post that summarized exactly how I have been feeling. I am one of those students who wish to learn but the ways my teachers present the material to me is just boring. When I decided to be a teacher I thought about many ways I could present my students history without boring them. All of my ideas included fun learning that did not include technology. Technology is not what makes a teacher a great teacher it is indeed the willingness to learn. Once a teacher is willing to learn then technology can be used to help that teacher share its message.
This post was the most inspirational thing i have read since deciding to teach for a living. It inspired me to keep thinking outside the box and to let others join when they are ready. I believe even more now that i will be a great teacher and it is thanks to Ms. Hines.
Karl Fisch: Is It Okay to Be A Technologically Illiterate Teacher?
Mr. Fisch blog post was very interesting. I agree with the standards he outlined for being a teacher. I also agree that is is very irresponsible to not be technologically literate when you are teaching our future. As teachers you have the responsibility to help students do their best by any means. If a teacher is not willing to learn more about computers then they should not be teaching children. A teacher who does not at least try to learn more is not helping their students at all they are hindering them.
I also really enjoyed that Mr. Fisch really let the readers know his inner thoughts in this blog. I liked the way he was constantly contradicting himself because it helped me as a reader understand and really think about what he was saying.

I believe that the count means that teachers will have to utilize the many new ways of reaching their students. There can be no more simply in class teaching going on. It is time for a change. Assignment can be posted on Facebook and there should be a time slot for questions. Groups can now meet outside of the classroom without really meeting because of the many new ways to stay in touch and share information. I think this count is a good thing. It is sort of a wake up call for teachers to come. Start thinking outside of the box because that will be the only way to relate to your students.

Mrs. Dianne Krause
I found all of the post very interesting especially DrillFly. Math is not a strong subject for many students and the fact that there is a website that anyone can create and share drills with students is a wonderful idea. Many students are on the internet for more than an hour a day and with a website like DrillFly it is easier to access help to improve their math grade. The information posted about Google is also very helpful to new teachers. I do however think that it would be hard to use Google in its fullness in many under privileged schools. In Mobile, AL where I live it is very hard to assign work through the internet because many of our schools have students that do not have access to the internet. I do think new inventions like the XO is a wonderful way to reach even the underprivileged students in the world.
I really enjoyed all the links you offered in this post. I want to be a middle school teacher and I sometimes worry about assigning research papers to my future students because the internet can be quite a dangerous place. There are many websites that can not be trusted and many young students do not think about this when looking for information. I have saved all of the links you have provided because they are the best websites I have seen that are kid friendly and also very helpful. Did You Know?
I can honestly say I did not know most of the things that were presented to me in this video. I did know that technology was progressing but I guess I really never knew how fast. Now that I think about it in the early nineties when I was a child my mother like most other adults had a pager. Cellular phones where basically for business use. My mom's first portable phone was a car phone and they are not even widely distributed anymore. As a child I myself wanted to invent a phone that had a radio inside of it. I thought it was a pipe dream, but a few years later cell phones had FM radio capabilities. Now that I really think about it I guess I did know technology was progressing so quickly.
I also find it interesting that the United States isn't as big as Americans make it seem. The fact that China and India has more honor students than we have student is very scary to me. It makes me think how the United States will remain a super power when we are being passed by nations who are not thought to be as strong and smart as we are. Knowing that many of China's population speaks English makes me wonder why are we as Americans not learning Chinese because it seems obvious that they will surpass our nation in every aspect from currency to education. America really needs to make the effort to keep up with our ever changing world so that in five years we will not be left behind.
Mr. Winkle Wakes
Mr. Winkle Wakes is a great representation of how technology has changed while education and teaching methods have stayed the same. We have made technology so much of our everyday life but we have kept it from the schools. Having one or two computers in a classroom does not help children learn how to use technology if they are not being used. Even in the computer classes offered in high schools typing is the only thing taught. Children need to know more about computers than just Microsoft Office. Technology is always changing and one of the fist places it should be taught is in schools to the future of the world.
Just like learning about the new technology that could be used to save a person's life is important for a doctor to know about a child should be learning how to use the technology that they will inevitably be using in there everyday life. We are keeping our children behind in the world because we are not teaching them everything they need to know for them to be efficient in the world. I think all future educators should watch this video so that they can change the way they intend to teach their class.
Sir Ken Robinson: The Importance of Creativity
Mr. Robinson's speech about creativity was very interesting. I do believe that it is important to offer more than one method of teaching because students do learn different. However, I am a realist and I understand how it would be hard for school systems to incorporate many different ways of teaching. That would mean having a triple major almost in college for secondary education majors like myself. There would have to also be qualified professors to teach this new way of teaching children who learn differently. I believe that all of the responsibility should not fall onto the schools for making sure creativity is not being taken away. Parents should try to figure out how their child learns by watching their study habits and encouraging them to stick with what helps them the most.
If both parents and teachers made sure the child is getting a well rounded education there would be no issue over creativity in the schools today.
Vicki Davis: Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts
I was a little confused about what kind of class Mrs. Davis was teaching at first honestly. If she is teaching a computer class then I think it is a very bright idea to teach her students HTML and computer programming skills. So many high school computer programs focus on typing skills rather than the other skills that would help a student get a good job in today's society. I also found it to be a good idea to let the students teach the class. It is very boring listening to a teacher lecture all the time. I personally feel that students listen more when a peer is talking and they have a chance to interact with the lesson.
On the other hand if Mrs. Davis is teaching a regular class then she is focusing too much on computer literacy that one way of learning. Students learn differently and it is just as bad to teach only through technology as it is through pencil and paper lectures. She has a very good concept and is trying to keep her students in touch with the world around them and the role technology places in it.
